Cyclocystoids are VERY rarely found articulated and/or whole.
Here is an example of the Cyclocystoid called Apycnodiscus decussatum.
This one was found by Kay Bonar on a Dry
Dredgers field trip.
Cyclocystoid Plates
Above are five photos taken from different angles of the same Cyclocystoid
plate. This specimen has a type of preservation that is unique to the "Cyclora
Fossil Hash" layers of the Arnheim Formation.

The above cystoid is an excellently preserved Glyptocystitid Rhombiferan specimen. As you can see, the hand drawing at the top of this page is not an exaggeration. This really is a strange looking creature. What appears to be eyes are actually pore rhoms.

This is a nearly complete specimen of the Rhombiferan Cheirocystis fultonensis was found that the base of the Kope Formation Fulton Beds (left and right sides shown above). It is missing the stem. The specimen has not been prepared and so is covered with matrix. As of this writing, less than a dozen complete specimens of this species have been found and so each specimen is of scientific importance. This one was found by Bill Heimbrock. Note the ambulacra exposed at the top of the specimen.
Come to Geofair 2011 on Sunday, May 8, 2011 and see Dr. Colin Sumrall from the University of Tennessee give an illustrated presentation on "Beautiful & Bizarre Cincinnati Echinoderms". The talk begins at 1 pm on the second floor.
